First briefly explained:
One-Box
This is an integrated solution: a gateway is used that combines several functions.
Advantages:
- Easy to install as everything is integrated into one device
- Space-saving because less hardware is used
- Lower acquisition costs
Disadvantages:
- Less flexibility in the choice of devices
- All functions are affected if the gateway fails
Two-Box
The bridge and router are installed separately: the bridge (modem) connects to the access network and the router distributes the signal in the local network.
Advantages:
- Greater flexibility in the choice of devices (e.g. WiFi generations)
- If one device fails, the other function is still available
- Reduced integration and support effort
- Lower TCO (Total Cost of Ownership)
Disadvantages:
- The installation may be a little more complicated for the end customer
- More physical devices in use
And now?
Which type of solution is preferred often depends on specific requirements, network configuration and preferences.
