The solution for energy service providers to comply with the requirements of the new electricity law

On June 9, 2024, the Swiss electorate passed the ‘Mantelerlass’, which entails far-reaching changes for energy supply companies. The law specifically addresses issues such as security of supply, the expansion of renewable energy, innovation in grid integration and energy efficiency.

The new electricity law puts pressure on energy supply companies to find innovative solutions providing customers with tailored and easily accessible information. Among others, they are required to actively support their customers in achieving annual efficiency improvement goals.

That means...?

As a minimum requirement for electricity billing, customers must be shown the following in a clear and easily understandable way:

■    How is my personal electricity consumption developing over time?
■    How does my consumption compare with that of an average Swiss household?
■    What measures can I implement to increase efficiency?

From the existing broad standard scope of Eliq's Energy Insights platform, we would like to highlight 4 use cases and features - the Swiss Regulatory Energy Insights - that will set you up to meet the efficiency requirements of the new electricity law.

This is how you, as an energy supply company, can meet these requirements – with an appealing additional service for your customers: motivating insights into individual energy consumption, self-production with PV, and personalized advice on energy efficiency!

This can be implemented, as an example, by printing on the paper invoice, by displaying on the electronic invoice or via a web portal:

  • Monthly Comparison: Customers receive an overview of their historical data and trends on energy consumption and energy production compared to a previous billing period.
  • End User Categories: The energy consumption is divided into multiple definable energy usage categories so that customers can see in which areas they consume the most electricity.
  • Similar Homes: Customers can see how their energy consumption compares to that of other households. To do this, the individual profile is compared with a definable reference group.
  • Energy Advisor: Customers are provided with three definable, individualized pieces of advice, which they can implement as a set of actions. This helps customers to increase their efficiency and save costs.

Scalable solutions for the future

The experience we have gained in the Swiss market from various projects with well-known local energy supply companies has enabled us to support the local needs and requirements of Swiss utilities.

Important here are topics such as data access via API, data security, presence in all national languages, appearance and design of the white-label mobile & web applications and the use of PV modules.
