In the first part of our series on "Cyber Security", we informed about the dangers to which today's smart home devices and home network are exposed.
Our technology partner Plume® masters these challenges with ease! Learn today how Plume's artificial intelligence-based protection works exactly.
Plume has been adding an optimal security service to the service suite, and therefore to the Internet Service Provider's portfolio, from the very beginning - based on state-of-the-art AI and machine learning.
That's why GUARDTM (HomePassTM) and SHIELDTM (WorkPassTM) services are integrated - round-the-clock digital protection for every device on the WiFi network.
Suspicious activity is filtered out and devices that behave strangely are automatically isolated. The apps inform about every blocked threat.
Plume works with Global Threat Intelligence vendors to provide protection and troubleshooting for all devices connected to the Plume network (via WiFi or ethernet), in addition to automatic device detection. Data sets are updated multiple times daily to detect and defend against the complex and dynamic threat landscape, including ephemeral attack types and zero-day attacks. This system is supported by cloud-based real-time protection algorithms and intelligent machine learning.
This way, threats such as malware, botnets, ransomware, phishing attacks, crypto-mining, viruses, spam and other fraudulent access to threatening websites and servers are automatically blocked.
And this also means that as soon as a new type of attack is detected, Plume's security protection is automatically updated for all currently over 39 million HomePass households and all WorkPass networks worldwide! This is especially important today as cyber threats continue to evolve and become more sophisticated.
In addition, Plume's IoT protection (Internet of Things) has an extra layer of protection for IoT devices (devices on which users do not interact with a browser), based on the use of artificial intelligence and cloud-based machine learning algorithms.
Thus, Plume learns the normal behavior of IoT devices by analyzing the activities of similar devices in the global Plume network. This requires accurate device identification, which helps distinguish a thermostat from a doorbell or an Alexa voice assistant from a Google Home. The behaviors are encoded in device-specific rules and are analyzed when devices connect to the Internet.
Using automatically generated profiles of known behaviors, Plume's protection identifies anomalous device activity that does not match known patterns. These anomalous connections are scanned for potential malicious activity and blocked and quarantined to protect the local network until the user reviews and takes recommended action. This prevents malware from spreading to other devices on the network.
So unlike many other solutions, HomePass and WorkPass provide technology-independent, maximum security for all types of IoT hardware.
Advanced device typing:
ADT technology classifies WiFi connected devices within minutes via the Plume cloud and ensures cloud-customized performance for each device.
Outbound IP Protection – Whole-home device protection:
AI-based global threat intelligence protects every connected device from visiting known malicious destinations, protecting infection from malware, spyware, ransomware, botnets, viruses, crypto-mining or phishing attacks. Moreover, Plume allows users to manually block specific IP addresses in addition to specific domains.
Intrusion detection and blocking:
IP-based online protection stops outside attackers from gaining access to the local networks and notifies users of any attackes on exposed devices.
Behavioral analysis and anomaly detection:
GUARD and SHIELD's anomaly detection uses machine learning to understand normal IoT device activity and develop a whitelist of allowable behaviors. Anomalies are reviewed continuously and outliers are automatically blocked.
Remediation and isolation:
When anomalies are detected, Plume automatically blocks connections and quarantines devices on their local networks to prevent the spread of malicious code. Quarantined devices can still be used, but GUARD and SHIELD ensure that they cannot communicate with other devices on the network to prevent the potential spread of infection to other connected devices within the network. Once the recommended remediation has been completed, the device can be removed from quarantine.
Network-wide security dashboard:
Events on the network can be tracked through various lenses, including by activity, time period, and geographic distribution. This allows users to respond immediately to infrastructure threats. The service provider's customer support also has visibility into customer dashboards, enabling them to monitor network threats and troubleshoot issues down to the device level.
Users today need to feel that their network meets their needs and protects them - not the other way around. Internet providers can't avoid offering personalized experiences, solutions and services to their customers.
Plume's apps create just that personal touch: HomePass and WorkPass provide comprehensive transparency, control and security. They alert users to issues in real time and give them the ability to fix problems immediately. They protect against identity fraud, data theft and loss of privacy. All this with the advantage of not having to update anything manually - all updates are automatically delivered from the Plume cloud!
In the third part of our series on cyber security, you will find out how you can secure your business growth and stability for the future as a service provider with a cloud-based solution.
Create added value with an all-in-one solution for overall protection of the customer network thanks to Plume and establish yourself as a reliable, trustworthy partner in a highly competitive market!
